We came for one night and ended up staying two. After an exhausting trip, it felt like coming home. The place was clean, the staff were lovely, and the facilities were great. The showers were among the best we had on our backpacking trip, and the beds were really good. There's a great kitchen, laundry and even a dryer for a small fee. The backyard was superb, especially for a slow breakfast. Thanks for two excellent nights! 🥰

We booked a small double room, but when we arrived the receptionist, Heather, I believe, was so friendly and helpful that she upgraded us to a large double at no extra cost. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. We only stayed one night and loved it. Tamara Riverside Lodge is good value for money, and I'd recommend it. We'll definitely stay again whenever we get the chance.

During my two months in New Zealand, this was by far my favourite place to stay. The rooms were always very clean, and there was free coffee, tea and other things in the kitchen. The people were really friendly, the house and area beautiful, and reception gave good advice about what to do. In the lounge there was a piano, a guitar and a TV with lots of movies. It has a more homely feel than other backpackers. I'd definitely recommend checking it out, you won't regret it.

We borrowed bikes and took the long bike path down to the coast and around to castle cliff. The walk into the city center for cafes and restaurants was convenient too. We stayed two nights in a small upstairs room with an en-suite and a nice garden view. It was all very clean and well organised, and the shared kitchen was easy to use despite my not being used to that setup. The whole place felt relaxed, thanks in part to the excellent, delightful and helpful staff and owners. We'd definitely stay again.

The river setting made for a really relaxed stay, and I enjoyed playing the organ and classical guitar while I was there. My room, the kitchen and the bathrooms were all quite clean. The staff were friendly and had good suggestions for things to do around the city. It was raining when I checked out, and Rory even drove me to the bus station, which I really appreciated. Tamara Lodge is well organised compared with many backpackers and lodges. It's a bit far from the bus station, but I still think it's worth staying here.
