Gilmer Hotel Apartments

We loved our first stay at the Gilmer and would definitely come back. The rooms are very well appointed, with thoughtful touches that made everything comfortable, from the tasteful artwork and quality cushions to the velvet throw. The bedside lights were already on when we arrived, which felt welcoming. We especially liked the Nespresso machine and milk frother. The washer and dryer would have been useful if we'd been near the end of our holiday. The reception staff were delightful, and we paid for secure parking in the building across the road, which gave us peace of mind. The leaflet had clear directions for a quick route to the shopping precinct, and Boulcott St Bistro is just a two-minute walk away. We didn't have time to use the complimentary gym and sauna, but those are a great bonus.

The apartment is compact but comfortable, in a great part of Wellington with easy access to the main attractions, buses, trains and the port. The kitchen is small but works for a short stay, though I think it could feel limiting for a visit of 30 days or more. The washing machine was a handy extra. We had no trouble using our Fire Stick with the new Panasonic TV, and the internet was excellent. The separate bathroom is small, but suited our needs. We'd happily stay here again when passing through Wellington.

The apartment was spacious, and there's a lift nearby, which helps with the uphill walk into the city centre. Wellington is a very steep city, so keep that in mind if you don't know it. The location is convenient for the centre. Furnishings felt quite cheap, and the sofa was a sofa bed without any cushions. The bed was comfortable, and I liked being able to control the aircon and open the windows. My bedroom backed onto the lift shaft, but I wasn't bothered by it, even with the fairly thin walls. I'd probably stay again.

We wanted somewhere quiet but still handy for central Wellington, and the Plimmer Steps made getting there easy. The room was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. Staff were accommodating about a late checkout and letting us leave our luggage. I'd stay again.
