The Intrepid Hotel

We were right above the bar at the front on the first floor, so Friday and Saturday nights were a little noisy. That comes with being in a lively part of town, and it didn’t bother us, but it’s useful to know. Downstairs, Puffin Wine Bar also sells bottles, a nicer option than an overpriced mini-bar since there aren’t drinks in the room. Each floor has a self-serve tea and coffee spot with filtered and sparkling water. They welcomed us warmly and brought us in out of the wind. Check-in was easy and friendly, with a helpful amount of information. We carried our own bags, which I prefer, and found a huge room. The artwork changes by floor, giving the hotel its own character. Total was around $500 AUD for two nights. It’s a friendly, well-run small hotel, and I’d gladly return.

The staff were kind, welcoming, and made us feel at home. The Puffin bar downstairs was great, and the hotel has lots of handy extras: laundry, an ice machine, free coffee outside the room in the morning, and sparkling and still water on tap in the hallway. They even left snacks in the room and provided comfy robes. Our room felt roomy thanks to a great layout, with separate toilet and shower. It was comfortable, well designed, and well appointed. I loved this hotel and can’t recommend it enough.

We had a large room, number 106, and liked the stylish industrial-chic look. The bar downstairs had a cool, youthful feel. It’s a lovely little hotel, just off the Cuba pedestrian area, so the location was great.

They made traveling with our dog easy, with a Life of Riley dog bed just like the one we have at home, food and water bowls, and special treats for our pup. The room was immaculate, and the whole stay felt thoughtfully arranged. Early morning tea or coffee from the hallway station was a lifesaver. The hotel is very central, so getting around on foot was easy. They don’t provide parking, but the recommended lot was easy to reach and relatively inexpensive. We’d definitely stay again, especially with our dog.
