The apartment itself has some good things: the beds, showers, air conditioning, and washer and dryer all worked well. It’s a nice place, but I regret staying. The WiFi was nearly unusable, and the kettle didn’t work. In other respects, everything felt as cheaply furnished and equipped as possible. Juan replied quickly whenever I messaged, but by the end I wondered if I was talking to a chatbot. The responses were generic, saying “we are here for you” without really dealing with the issue. A maintenance worker came by a few times to “address the issue,” but it seemed the internet provider was just cheap, and there wasn’t much he could do. They reimbursed us for one night, which seemed fair, and said they planned to change providers, also fair enough. This felt like one of those soulless company AirBnB operations, with an investor buying up prime real estate. The surrounding streets made it pretty obvious how privileged we were as tourists staying there. The wrong lockbox code was sent at first, and the WhatsApp message had the wrong WiFi code too. It was a very faceless, modern AirBnB experience, and it reminded me why I should stop using the platform. I found the communication a bit disingenuous, though I’m sure the response to this review will be very well written. Each to their own, and I can imagine others having a great stay.

The view at high tide was great, and the AC was super cold. I slept like a baby. There was a small mix-up getting the keys, but they sorted it out quickly. I really enjoyed the stay and would come back.

The apartment was clean, modern, and roomy. We had a corner balcony in apartment 1D, which was nice since the balconies aren’t fully private, just divided by a planter box. The earplugs they provide are there for a reason. You’re near the bars, restaurants, and sights in the nice area, but also right at the edge of a sketchy neighborhood. We never felt in danger, though at times we were uneasy. Here’s the big warning: the listing says there’s a doorman, but there isn’t one. Entry is all automatic. You need to scan a QR code on your phone to get into the building, then use a number code for the key lockbox inside. Wynwood House says it only sends the QR code on the day of arrival “for security reasons,” but they never sent ours. We arrived at 5:30 pm and were stuck outside. I called, messaged, tried WhatsApp, and wrote through the Wynwood app, but no one replied, including the 24-hour emergency contact. With help from local people in the street, we eventually got in with other guests after a stressful two-hour wait. Wynwood finally got in touch at 10:30 pm and said they were “sorry for the inconvenience.” This could have been dangerous. We were there six days and saw many other travelers run into the same problem. It’s unacceptable. Older reviews mention it too, so it seems Wynwood House management just doesn’t care. If you have a car, there are “parking assistants.” We’ve seen people like this in many countries and understand they’re trying to make a living, but here they insist on daily rates instead of accepting whatever you’re willing to offer.
