Hostal Solar

We stayed three nights and left feeling underwhelmed for the price. The shower kept blasting us with freezing water every minute or so. Also, our room door never locked with the keycard. Whenever we went out, we had to ask someone to lock it, and nobody explained the problem or seemed to try to fix it, which made us uncomfortable. There was also a sign in the room saying guests could use the washer and dryer on the fourth floor. We did a load, then the woman at the desk told us the sign was a “mistake” and asked us to pay her directly. Had we known, we might not have used them, but it was too late. She put tricking people ahead of good customer service.

The sunset from the balcony was lovely, and the staff were friendly, though not everyone spoke English. They arranged airport taxis for me, and they always arrived on time. I could also leave my luggage in storage for an overnight trip to the Colca canyon. The hotel is reasonably priced and sits centrally near the historic centre and key restaurants. Showers had very hot water. A few things bothered me: the curtains wouldn't slide across, so I had to use a pole to pull them, and the breakfast was so basic I ate out every day. The WiFi was very bad, and several calls dropped.

The breakfast was excellent and included. The room was a nice size with a great view of the volcanos, and the staff were friendly. Excellent hostal.

They were very kind to us. We arrived early with Peruhop, well before afternoon check-in, but they arranged a room and let us have breakfast that day instead of waiting until the next. Breakfast was great, with fresh fruit, juice, coca tea, excellent jam, and more. Eggs cost extra. We can definitely recommend this place!
