Motto by Hilton Cusco

During my week here, the staff quickly became familiar faces. They remembered my room number at breakfast and were always friendly. Since I was staying a while, they also gave me extra water beyond what was normally included. The cleaning was consistently excellent, and coca leaves and teas were available in the lobby around the clock for anyone dealing with altitude sickness. People mention street noise, but this is a central part of the city, where drivers honk to announce themselves at intersections and turns. I personally had no noise issues over seven nights, even with a street-facing room, aside from one morning when a delivery truck was reversing outside. If you're not used to city life, that might bother you.

We stayed four nights. The staff were friendly and kind, and the location puts everything within walking distance. It still has a certain level of quality associated with the Hilton brand, though I wouldn't expect full Hilton luxury standards. One thing to watch for is an additional tax. Foreigners staying in Peru for less than 60 days are typically exempt, but I didn't know that and paid it. When I checked afterward, I found we shouldn't have been charged. The hotel has promised a refund, though I don't know how long it will take or whether we'll get the full amount back.

The apparent pressure on the staff and how overworked they seemed made the atmosphere uncomfortable, rather than welcoming. I expected a comfortable stay at Motto by Hilton Cusco, but found the rooms extremely small and cramped, nothing like the photos suggest. The food felt like a poor deal, overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. The hotel seems to rely too much on its brand name without offering good value or a pleasant experience. I wouldn't recommend it.

It's convenient, clean, and the staff are friendly, with shampoo and conditioner provided. But I wouldn't stay again. My room was a shoebox with no room for our luggage, so we had to keep the bags closed the whole time. There was no AC, and with the windows open for ventilation, the rooms were extremely loud. My several large bags didn't get any help from any of the three young guys at the desk, which made me wonder whether they were taught to be courteous. There was no coffee or kettle in the room. I should have asked for one, since apparently that was an option, but I didn't know. The kitchen coffee was left out overnight. At 3 a.m., before a hike pickup, it was freezing; at 6 a.m. it was hot but awful and watery. I told the front desk girl and she just said sorry, then charged me for coffee from the machine upstairs. Good customer service would've covered that. And the machine coffee was somehow even worse than the breakfast coffee, lol. Ubers are cheap, so I'd rather stay farther out and pay $3 to get downtown, or walk when I want to explore.
