Benkawasi

The hostel rooms barely feel like dorms. Our four-person room was actually two connected rooms, each with two single beds and its own ensuite bathroom. Extra blankets are available if you get cold, and there’s a full kitchen for cooking. Tours around Huaraz are easy to book and affordable. Breakfast is included even with the very low hostel price. The staff are super friendly and patient with translation, though they don’t speak much English, and they’re very helpful. Card payments are accepted with a 5% fee, which is fine since most other businesses don’t take cards. Great value.

The rooms were clean and had hot water, and it’s very close to the city center. You can refill your bottle with filtered water, too. We had a wonderful stay at Benkawasi hostel: the atmosphere is lovely, the staff are always around and very kind, and breakfast is delicious. We’d definitely recommend it!

This was easily my favorite hostel in Peru. The staff are caring and lovely, and it’s good value for the money. I met some amazing people there, so I warmly recommend it to solo travelers. There’s even a fire every night.

Julio was a great manager, and if you ask nicely he might even give you a short Peruvian mixology lesson 🍹🍹. The friendly staff also provide breakfast even when you’re heading out early to hike, and there’s coffee and coca tea available. Benkawasi has a relaxed feel, with quiet hours at 10pm and a rooftop bar with a nice view. There’s also a comfortable living room with a screen for movies or the PS1 emulator. I had a great time there.
