Hotel El Gran Caiman

I couldn’t sleep here. It’s extremely noisy all night, and at 6:30am the breakfast restaurant on the top floor blasts music as if all of Peru needs to hear it. There’s also a karaoke room upstairs with no soundproofing, so every syllable of the singing keeps ringing in your ears. A casino connected to the hotel adds even more noise. The bread at breakfast had mould on it, and dust all over the reception table made me wonder what else wasn’t clean. Most of the staff seemed to just be there, though the woman at reception with clear glasses was really kind and helpful. Stay here if you don’t want to sleep.

The staff were nice and it’s centrally located, but I’d book somewhere quieter next time. Being on a main road is a real problem since the rooms have no sound insulation, which made sleeping very difficult. The rooms are basic, and the shower water is cold.

I came with a tour group and wouldn’t recommend this hotel or return to Mancora. The rooftop pool is beautiful, but they don’t clean it, so the water was very dirty, with lots of hair and bird feathers. The rooms got extremely hot in the sun and didn’t cool down at night. Streets nearby were muddy and smelled of sewage. I’d choose another beach town.

We had a really good stay. When my friend got sick, the staff drove us to the clinic, stayed to help translate, and provided food and everything else. They were so kind and helpful. Thanks again!
