The Real House-Hostel

Google Maps puts this in the wrong place. La Torre 449 is the correct address, on the central thoroughfare through Puno. The place itself was very clean and safe, with friendly staff who speak English. Breakfast was good by Peruvian standards, with eggs cooked how you like them, rolls, jam, juice, fruit, tea, and coffee.

The staff were incredibly helpful. I realized at 9 p.m. that I'd booked my uros and taquille tour for the wrong date. Since I only had two nights in Puno, they got me onto a tour the next day and arranged a taxi for the airport when I had to leave. The hotel was a very convenient three-minute walk from the train station where I arrived on the Peru rail Cusco Puno train. Along the way, there are about six Pollo a la brasa places, all with quarter chicken for 10 soles, really good and open pretty late. The room was dated but had what I needed: a bed, big window, big closet, and a shower with good pressure and very hot water. The bathroom had a bit of an iron smell, so I kept that door shut. It's a ten-minute walk to the plaza as advertised, and the Wi-Fi was great. I watched Netflix and downloaded movies without any problem.

It's in the traditional part of Puno, so getting to the tourist district means a walk. The hotel is cozy, dog friendly, and has great secure parking. Breakfast was great, too.

For a reasonable price, we got a big, clean room, hot water in the bathroom, and a good breakfast. Good value for money.
