I spent three nights at Casa Barco as a nanny, my first time working with this family. The property is beautiful and the staff are friendly, but dealing with the owners was a really unpleasant experience. I have three dogs, and for reasons I don’t know, the owners chose not to charge our group the usual pet fee. Then on the last day they charged me 150 soles, about 40 USD, saying my dogs had broken the hammock. I noticed the tear on our first day, and it clearly didn’t look like dogs had made it, especially not mine. There was also thread of another color around it, suggesting it had been torn and repaired before. When I raised this, the owners said the parents of the family I was traveling with had behaved terribly and my dogs weren’t well behaved enough. The woman was especially rude. She repeated that she just wanted me to pay and leave. It seems they had tried to get the family to pay the extra 150 soles, but they refused and said the dogs were my responsibility. I understand the owners might have been upset about the family’s attitude and behavior, but I’m baffled and frankly outraged that they penalized me for it. I also looked up hammocks like the one in our room, and they cost 30-50 soles. Not cool.

The staff were so helpful and friendly throughout our stay with a large group of friends. They accommodated all kinds of requests, from food and laundry to custom drinks and random things at all sorts of hours. When it was time for me to leave, they went above and beyond to help with the next part of my journey.

The place has an interesting design and architecture, very different from anywhere else. The rooms are good and cozy, it’s quiet, and it’s near the surf spots. The downside is all the stairs and the very high humidity in the rooms.

Casabarco Resort could be a good choice for a luxurious beach break. I was impressed by the lovely pool and beach during my stay, with plenty of ways to relax or have fun in the sun.

The rooms were clean, the view was nice, and breakfast service was good. The hotel is decent, though the in-room service could be better. It’s a little overpriced, but I think the extra money is worth it.
