Colca Lodge Spa & Hot Springs

We both needed oxygen, and the hotel provided it for us in the ‘tienda’ from the fixed machine and in our room with a portable tank. They also packed plain bread and other bits for my trip back over the 4900m pass. The welcome tea was lovely, and breakfast had plenty of variety. There are two restaurants next to each other; dinner isn’t included, but the prices are very fair, which was a nice surprise since there’s nowhere else to eat. The menu is huge. I especially recommend the rolled alpaca main course and lucuma fruit mousse. Oscar was excellent at dinner, and Gaby was delightful at breakfast.

The scenery around this beautiful lodge is lovely, and the alpaca farm is worth a look if you cross the iconic bridge. It has only a limited number of rooms, and the hot springs are open 24/24 hours. There’s a bar beside them that stays open until 6pm, and a spa where you can get a massage. The restaurant food was really good, probably the only option while staying there, though breakfast was average. For the price, I’d rate it 4/5 rather than 5/5.

After a long day, this is a relaxing place to unwind. The lodge sits in a beautiful setting, and our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful, especially the guys carrying luggage up and down the hill. Breakfast is a buffet with eggs cooked to order, but it got cramped and hectic when everyone was trying to leave at once.

Peaceful, and it fits right into the natural surroundings. The lodge, houses, rooms, and garden are beautifully designed and well equipped. The hot spring bathing spots have wonderful views, and the restaurant serves great food and wine. I’d suggest staying more than one night.
