The Penthouse Hotel

The friendly staff helped me through a difficult personal situation, and the price felt fair for what I got. The building has 12 floors and good facilities, though everything is old and dated. I liked the restaurant, rooftop pool, and bar, but the bathtub was dirty and I saw a few cockroaches.

The location is great for walking to Walking Street, and the staff were fantastic, knowledgeable, and seemed honest. The hotel itself is rundown, though. The photos looked like they were from ten years ago, and while the room resembled them, it showed its age. The AC stayed on and made the room very cold, with no way to adjust it. Anything you use in the room, even toothpaste, costs extra. It wasn't especially quiet either. The food and everything else shown in the pictures didn't come close to what was actually there.

The beds were really comfortable, and you can get hot water in both the shower and bathtub. There are a few parking spaces on the street by the main entrance. It's an upscale hotel about 100 meters from the infamous "Walking Street", yet the location keeps it very quiet.

Getting to shops, restaurants, bars, and laundry on foot was easy. The mini fridge and safe were handy, and the AC was nice and cold. The bed and pillows were comfortable, though the extra throw pillows could go. The furniture seemed dated, and I'd remove the rug and add an air freshener. Front desk, lobby, and room service staff were excellent. By contrast, the Upperdeck Poolside staff paid more attention to each other than to us, even though they were fully staffed and we were the only guests. The cocktails and beers were cold, but I wouldn't order the porter house steak unless you like chewing a lot. I'd still recommend the hotel.
