The airport transfer was the low point. The third-party van driver kept me waiting for over an hour and 15 minutes while he filled the van, and was rude. Everyone else from my flight had already left in their own vans long before me. Later, when I asked him to stop at The Golden Anchor for two minutes so I could leave my bag at reception before heading into town, he snapped, “NO WAITING.” That was pretty ironic after the long wait he’d put me through. I’d urge Golden Anchor management not to use that operator. Aside from this, I was very happy with my stay. Golden Anchor is peaceful and quaint, with birds in the garden, though it’s about 5 km or a 15-minute drive from town, or an hour on foot. A tricycle may cost around 50 pesos one way if you’re lucky. The rooms were clean and smelled very good, with powerful AC, though better mattresses would help. The staff were kind and helpful, and I found the breakfast plentiful and delicious. One morning they even served it as dinner when I had to skip breakfast, which I loved.

We were disappointed by the transport fare. Reception quoted 200 pesos per person for the airport ride, but the driver charged 250 each, so we paid 500 pesos in total. That difference was frustrating. We also had trouble with the laundry. We left clothes at reception and were told they’d be ready the next day because we had a flight. They’d been washed but were still damp, and two tops were missing. Our ride had already arrived and we were in a rush, so we didn’t spot that the laundry was incomplete right away. There were good parts to the stay, too. We were welcomed with drinks and useful information about the property, and arranging an airport drop-off and a tricycle for dinner through them was convenient.

The owners were welcoming and helpful, and the rooms were super clean. Golden Anchor sits in a lovely garden, where they serve an excellent breakfast. It’s surrounded by nature and away from the hustle and bustle, but they can arrange scooters or rides to the visitor center.
