RB Transient House

The people working there and the locals were warm and friendly, but the area needs serious inspection if anyone’s health matters. The hostel is in what is essentially a slum area. You walk over wooden planks above a garbage-filled mangrove swamp, and the smell of human sewage eventually gets into the sleeping area. It lingers throughout the hostel. There are bedbugs here now, and I have it on video. In my opinion, some hostels should close until they meet basic health standards for everyone’s safety. This is one of them. Beware.

The service was really friendly, and once inside the building felt solid and fairly clean, despite the shabby, odd walk to get there. But one of our beds was crawling with bedbugs. After about half an hour lying there, we both had loads of nasty little red bumps, so we moved to the top bunk, which seemed safe. When we told the owners, they seemed to already know about the problem, but they hadn’t told us or taken proper steps to get rid of the infestation.

The staff were really nice and helpful. The room was clean, and there’s a big kitchen and shared bathrooms. You can hear everything through the walls. The place is in a very unusual spot in the mangroves, which made me a little skeptical as we got closer, but it was okay once we arrived. Good for backpackers and people on a low budget.

It’s very affordable, and I think it’s the cheapest transient in Coron. I was traveling on a budget and chose a dorm room, which was nice. The staff were so kind and accommodating, and you can use the kitchen for free. I’ll definitely come back.
