Maritonies Place

We chose budget accommodation because we only needed somewhere to sleep after full days of diving, and three nights was about right. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, with good air conditioning. We didn’t have breakfast at Maritonies, though it looked good. This isn’t really a setting for fully relaxing and unwinding. The shared bathroom was very basic, with no sink or toilet seat. Those are basic standards, so it would be good if the property made some improvements. The staff were helpful, but we had significant problems with transport times and dates after they booked our tours and ferry tickets. It disrupted the later transport plans that depended on those arrangements, so I’d recommend booking those independently. Also, be careful not to lock yourself out. We left the key inside and the door shut behind us, our mistake, but then had to wait from 12am until 1.30am for someone to return and let us in. Most staff were out, and there was no spare key left at the property.

The ladies who run the place were so nice, and one of them washed and hung up our laundry for free. We had a good room, strong AC, hot water in the shower, plus free water and coffee. A hidden gem and great value!

The place itself is nice, and the staff are friendly, with nothing to complain about there. But there are a few dogs kept in extremely small cages near the restrooms. They aren’t let out, and smoke from burning paper is used to sedate them. Seeing that a couple of times a day during my stay wasn’t pleasant. Without that, it’d be 5 stars. It’s a different culture, but still hard to see.

A very nice place, highly recommended. It was very clean, had no blackouts, and there was always hot water. The air conditioner worked properly, and you can rent a bike right at reception. There’s also a huge mirror stretching up from the floor in the room.
