Gabby's Bed and Breakfast

The restaurant and rooms had a really relaxing feel, and the food was very good. The complimentary breakfast was good too. We checked in late, only about four hours before checkout, but the accommodating staff said we could still have the included breakfast and use the room until checkout. This will be our go-to hotel when we’re in Dumaguete.

The bathroom was disgusting, and its door was coming off the hinges and difficult to open and close. The rooms were dirty and full of bugs, with broken electrical sockets falling out of the wall. We got one set of sheets and towels, with no clean replacements no matter how long we stayed. When I asked staff for help, they did nothing. Dogs and cats run through the hallways.

The staff were very friendly, but I can’t recommend this place to friends. We booked three rooms and ran into problems in all of them. Room 212’s AC wasn’t working properly, and it had no complimentary tissue. There was a fan with us, which made us wonder why, given the explanation. In room 217, the door knob was hard to turn, and there was one sachet of toothpaste but no toothbrush. Room 206 had no toothpaste or toothbrush, and its broken bathroom sliding door was so hard to open that someone had to help from outside. The blanket was very thin.

It’s clean and fairly quiet, with very good Wi-Fi and air conditioning, though the room is very small. This is a bare-bones hostel with a very good restaurant. For the price, it’s an easy five stars. Just don’t expect Western standards for the rooms.
