The Charter House

The location is perfect, close to the services you need and one of Manila's biggest museums, and it takes 20-30 minutes to travel. The staff are kind, but the breakfasts were the worst of the five or six hotels we visited during our three-week vacation across several Philippine islands. Breakfast is served, though. This was the most expensive hotel of the trip, but you are in a business area. We thought there would be a pool bar. The bar is there, but there's no staff, so you have to call reception if you want a drink.

It's in a safe part of Manila, with lots of malls and restaurants, and not far from the airport. The room, unfortunately, smelled moldy. Its window looked onto a dusty, enclosed, abandoned courtyard and couldn't be opened. Breakfast had few options for Western guests, though that wasn't a problem for us, and there was no fruit included. We ordered pancakes, but they were raw. At this price, there are definitely better choices.

The staff and location are nice, but the facility is old and the window is so thin that you hear everything outside. The AC is basically an old fan. Definitely not worth the price.

The beds were really comfortable, and the room had a tiny fridge and lots of electrical outlets. The rooftop pool was nice too, and you could order food there, though the view wasn't anything special. Security was good, and reception was nice. The internet was extremely poor and sometimes didn't work at all, which is a pain if you have a meeting. The AC was an old, loud unit, and the bathroom fan was broken most of the time. The TV wasn't smart, so no Netflix or YouTube. There was a lot of construction outside, and I kept getting woken up at 8-9. That might be fine if the price were cheaper. For about 65 dollars a night, I'd expect more from a 4 star hotel. This feels more like 3 star. If the price drops, I could see myself returning, especially in maybe a year when the construction is finished.
