Haus Malibu Hotel

We’ve stayed here a couple of times and always liked the place, but this visit during rainy season was rough. Rain was leaking into the rooms and hallway, and the shower pressure was very low. The water kept turning cold, even though I asked the friendly staff about it many times over our five days. They’d fix it, then five minutes later it was back to the same problem. The hotel needs renovations urgently. We love it here, but may choose somewhere else next time. It’d be a pity if nothing gets done and the hotel is lost for good.

The room was pretty spacious for me on my own, and it had hot water in the shower, which is a big plus. I’d forgotten to mention the shower when I first wrote this, so I’m adding that now. I also thought there wasn’t a table lamp, but there is one. It’s just in the corner instead of on the desk or beside the bed.

Breakfast was included and tasty, though the serving was small. There’s free WiFi, and the price was about 2000php a night, which is affordable. The staff were nice enough when we checked in, and the place is near a mall, places to eat, and the terminal. We were mostly there overnight and early in the morning for two days, and the power went out five times. The room itself was pretty dirty. The AC and floors were dusty, the shower drain was clogged, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything, including dogs and chickens from the housing area behind the hotel. Morning staff started early, shouting between rooms and waking us up. When we asked them to be quieter, they got louder and put on music. We had to complain at the front desk, but we were already awake by then. It was cheap and had availability, but I probably wouldn’t stay again.

The room was big, but the bed was stiff, the pillows were worn, and I suspect the sheets hadn’t been washed. The bathroom had what looked like new tiles, but the toilet flush was weak and the washbasin was positioned so badly that you could bump your head using it. Upstairs, the hallway rugs badly need cleaning. We used to stay here often because it was a nice hotel. Last night was really bad, though. Light from the lobby shone through the glass above the door, and there was a wide gap underneath where mosquitoes could get in. There were lots of them. None of the outlets by the bed worked, and neither did any of the four bedside lamps. We called staff, but nobody knew what to do. Even with all that, the hotel seems to have a steady market from conferences and seminars.
