We loved the clean, well-kept beach. It felt safe for little kids even at night, until 10:30 pm. My six-year-old called Trader Rics a likable place, and it was a cozy comfort zone for us in Olongapo. The staff were courteous and informative, and the standard room deal we got was good. The room was clean and okay, with one small soap. The shower head holder was damaged, so it was good we’d brought our own toiletries. The air conditioning worked fine. We had our own portable Wi-Fi, so I can’t comment on theirs. Food was better than we expected, though quite pricey. Breakfast costs extra, as their page says, and portions could feed three or four people with small appetites. A bottle of water per guest would have been nice, since the welcome drinks weren’t mentioned online. The second-floor restaurant has a breathtaking view, especially while watching the sun rise or set. We arrived close to dinner time, two days before Chinese New Year, just wanting to get away somewhere. Trader Rics wasn’t my first pick for the family: my original choice was too expensive for three people, and my second choice was fully booked. On the way, we ran into a checkpoint and were given tickets for two, equivalent to parking for two cars, even though we were commuters. They returned them when my husband said we’d already found a room in their barangay. I’d recommend this hotel or its neighbor, Blue Rock Hotel, if you want to stay at Baloy Long Beach. To avoid discomfort and wrong expectations, check online what the hotels say they offer. If it isn’t on their page, it isn’t offered. Reading former guests’ comments and suggestions, both good and bad, can also help you decide.
