The cottages sit nicely within the garden at Small La Laguna Beach, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and practical. The staff are very friendly and ready to help. As the name suggests, the resort mainly serves divers, though non-divers can enjoy the inviting bar and restaurant too. There’s no road access to Small La Laguna Beach, so you can only get there on foot. I came on a heavy motorcycle, for example, and would recommend arranging secure private parking at Sabang Beach, then walking the five minutes to Small La Laguna.

We liked the comfortable, nicely decorated sea view rooms, and they were well maintained. The showers had hot water and decent pressure, and the view was lovely. There’s a coffee and tea hot water station in the common lounge, which we were welcome to use for our first two days. There’s no tea or coffee setup in the rooms. The bar was good, but we ate and drank elsewhere after the situation below. We would have spent a lot at the French restaurant and charged it to our rooms, but we didn’t feel welcome. The toilets aren’t plumbed well. When a neighboring room flushes, yours can erupt noisily, even in the middle of the night. The sea view rooms can also be loud. Dive crews start early out front, sometimes at 5:00 am, seemingly forgetting guests are still asleep. There are many cats, so take note if you have allergies. They fought and screeched around 3am. I chased them off our balcony, but they returned. Ear plugs helped. The manager had been away and, after returning, told staff we could no longer use the tea, coffee, or hot water because we weren’t on the full board package. The next day there was a sign over the urn saying we couldn’t use it. We’d been invited to use it on the first two days and enjoyed coffee on the deck outside our rooms in the morning. Losing the chance to have a few pesos’ worth of instant coffee cost them our food and drink business.

Our bungalows were spotless, with thoughtful little decorative touches. We loved the fresh crepes and homemade jams at breakfast, though I forgot to ask for the coconut jam recipe. :) Christoph was our dive instructor, and he was attentive, helpful, and corrected us so we could improve. He knows the dive sites very well, and diving with him was great. The equipment was in very good condition. We’ll definitely come back!

This is my favorite restaurant and diving resort in PG. I first came three years ago and met a lot of amazing people. I really enjoy the food too. The pizza, with its crispy base and cheesy topping, is one of my top three. The pork adobo is good, and so is the casa salad, though I don’t like that the leaves are sliced up. The Thai salad, on the other hand, is plain and doesn’t have much Thai-style flavor. The coffee is better than at most restaurants on the island. I hope they can keep going forever.

The owner completely ruined my first impression. I asked why I was being charged for laundry I hadn’t used, which had been done before I even checked in. I also asked why there was a 4.5% surcharge for paying by credit card when I’d asked about this before check-in and wasn’t told. And why could my friend pay by bank transfer when I couldn’t? The owner responded with horrific abuse over those two questions. Welcome to the crazy hotel. The owner also mentioned serious problems with two banks that were causing her terrible trouble. I wouldn’t pay in advance here. The kitchen isn’t the best either.
