The breakfast has been slipping lately, too. It used to be free, but now the food is served cold. There are plenty of other good places to choose from, including Ironwood, Summit, Ambassador, and Rosvenil, so I won't be returning to Tacloban Plaza. We've stayed at this hotel for around 20 days over the past two years, including five or six times in the last month or so. Until today, we'd always been happy with the decent rooms, cold A/C, hot showers, and especially the staff. They treated us like family, went out of their way to help, and greeted us with a smile whenever we came back. I tip well, too. This time we arrived with more family. Our online booking was for four adults and one child in two rooms, with two beds in each. The listing said children could stay free if they used the same linen. At check-in, the clerk said we'd need to pay an extra P790 for the child. When we explained what we'd booked, she asked the child's age. He's 11, so she said anyone over 10 was charged extra. We politely pointed out that the booking hadn't mentioned that rule, and we didn't need another bed. My wife and I shared one bed, and the child used the other. The desk clerk wouldn't budge. She wanted the P790 or she'd cancel the booking without a refund. I reminded her how often we'd stayed there, which she acknowledged, and asked if she really wanted to risk losing thousands of Pesos in future bookings over a one-time charge of P790. She said yes. That makes no sense as a business decision. I wonder if the owner knows that this could cost them a loyal customer over such a small amount. The money itself is trivial, but that hard, uncaring attitude about collecting it was shocking.

The breakfast buffet was a highlight, especially when they surprised our little girl with a birthday greeting. The room was great too, with a comfortable bed, hot and cold shower, and freebies. We had a memorable stay at the Tacloban Plaza Hotel, thanks in large part to the staff. From the receptionist who welcomed us to the housekeeping team, everyone did their best to make us comfortable. We can't wait to come back!

The rooms could use some improvement, though mine was clean. It looked a bit worn out, so hopefully they'll renovate soon. The staff were kind and friendly, breakfast was good, and getting around downtown was very convenient. I stayed just one night and would recommend it for an affordable overnight trip.

There are a few things the hotel could improve. The front desk staff should greet guests with a friendly good morning instead of concentrating on their phones. Breakfast items aren't replenished if you arrive around 9:30, so you have to ask whether there's more bread or coffee. The breakfast lounge itself was pleasant, and the cleaning staff were friendly and nice. My room was clean but very dark. A room with a window costs an additional P800, and the TV picture was blurry enough to make it hard to watch. There's no airport shuttle. They charge an extra 250/pax, which feels very expensive when public transportation costs only P23. The airport is just a 20-minute drive away, so they could lower the price a little.

The food and service were okay. I'd suggest cleaning the rooms a bit more, though. Something flying around over the bed as I was settling down to sleep wasn't welcome.
