The location is handy, with lots of shops and cafés on the way to the centre, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The bedding had stains and holes and smelled unpleasant. I woke up freezing every morning, then noticed the radiators were off. When I asked why, with it -4 outside, a staff member said the boiler adjusts the radiators to the outside temperature. I’ve never had to sleep in thermals before. It was -6 when I went for coffee before my remote job, and nobody let me back in despite pressing the buzzer for five minutes. I gave up and sat in a café for an hour before trying again. There’s no key code or lock, just the buzzer, and it seemed like only about half the time someone would let you in. The night staff member who greeted me on arrival was rude, rolling his eyes, huffing and tutting when I politely asked a question. Another staff member asked me to leave while she cleaned the kitchen, even though she could see I was working on my laptop. Most of the others cleaned around me without disturbing me, and since she only needed the area for three minutes, being asked to move felt pointless and annoying. I appreciate routine cleaning, but at other hostels staff have just cleaned around me, or I’ve offered to move aside briefly. I tried to enjoy the week I was there, but I was very disappointed.

The beds were very comfortable, with a mattress topper, bedding and one pillow, though I missed having a curtain to close off my bed. The heating was my one big problem: there was no way to adjust it in the room, and a bed beside the radiator could get quite hot. I know the hostel is working on air conditioning for the next refurbishment stage, but some nights were uncomfortable, so I took off one star. For the price, the place is better than expected. It’s in a great spot beside a Zabka convenience store and a tram stop, and about a 10 minute walk to the town square. Staff and guests were friendly. Traffic noise bothered some people but didn’t bother me much. The hostel gives out free earplugs, and I think guests who were that concerned could have checked the location more carefully. Bathroom numbers compared with beds were a minor issue. On my last night, a big youth group booking meant a wait before my flight, though the hostel advertises the number of bathrooms, so I knew this could happen. I’m glad and a bit surprised it only happened once. A staff member saw me in the longer queue and pointed out a free bathroom in another corridor. My first room had to close for a deep clean. It’s good to know they do that, and they upgraded me for free from an 8 person room to a 4 person one. There were almost no other issues, and anything that did come up was sorted right away. Highly recommend.

Really comfortable and clean, with plenty of space and friendly staff. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. Highly recommend.

The dorm door opens straight onto the reception desk, so there’s no real sense of privacy. I’d avoid the 10-bed room beside reception, whatever the trendy furniture pictures online might suggest. The room is about 32 square meters, or 3.2 per person, with five bunk beds and only two chairs. It feels cramped, with little space to move or put your things. There’s no air conditioning, so it gets hot and stuffy, and the thin, see-through curtains, plus two windows with no curtains at all, mean sunlight wakes you early. For 30+ people on the floor, there are just 3 toilets, 5 showers and 4 sinks, so morning queues are unavoidable. One bathroom is across the main entrance hall and needs a badge to enter. Three bathrooms are cramped, with one hook and nowhere to put your belongings. There are only 8 power outlets for 10 guests. Trams run every few minutes all night along the busy line right beside the hostel. You hear them and feel the vibrations in the bed. Earplugs are available at reception. If you do stay with this company, try their apartment across the street. It’s in a separate building, about 100 square meters, with 14 single beds, two bathrooms, a mini washing machine and a small kitchen. It seems like a much better option.

The main drawback was too few toilets for the number of rooms. The place itself is bright and airy, with lots of room to relax. Staff were accommodating when we asked to stay an extra night, even though we had to switch rooms. The rooms have air conditioning units, but they weren’t on, and the remote was nowhere to be found.
