Our reservation was made through Trinitaria’s own website because I’ve had trouble booking on other sites like Expedia before. We wanted to support a local hotel instead of using Airbnb or other services that can affect what locals pay. But when we arrived, they said our booking was for the following night, and the room was already occupied. We asked them for a ride to another place, but they declined and said we’d have to pay for that service. Thankfully, we found a nearby Airbnb and paid $6 for a Lyft to get there. We also waited more than an hour at the airport for the shuttle. I’d suggest taking a taxi or another ride to the hotel. I gave two stars instead of one because they refunded me right away, which I appreciated.

The room was comfortable for a one-night stop before catching the ferry in the morning. Restaurants and a Walgreens for essentials were a short walk away. If you arrive after business hours, there’s a number to call; they explain how to get the lockbox code and your room key. That worked out well.

I was looking forward to staying here, but recent events meant I couldn’t fly to San Juan. I understand there’s a cancellation policy, but I was disappointed they didn’t make more allowance for circumstances outside my control. I’ll only get $50 back from my $412 reservation, and I won’t book here again when we reschedule.

I’ve never stayed anywhere like this and was really disappointed. I’m writing this from the room after being woken up for what feels like the tenth time by awful music and all the light coming in from outside. The music from next door was extremely loud even at midnight, like it was playing in our room. This doesn’t seem suitable for families with kids. The curtains are positioned badly, so they don’t give privacy or block the light. There was no hot water, and the shower head was broken, with water going everywhere. I’d take a motel over this.

It feels like being at home when you walk into this beautiful house. The guest house is clean and comfortable, and there’s a maid now, though I don’t know what things were like in the past. My room had a mini fridge with complimentary water, Netflix, and cold air conditioning. The balcony always had a fresh breeze. The property manager was very kind and even put a microwave and plastic cutlery in the buffet room for my child and me. She also provided hot water and a range of body washes in the bathroom. I found this place cleaner and more private than the hostels I’ve stayed in, and it’s the best guest house I’ve stayed at in San Juan. Calle Loiza is a party street, so yes, it’s noisy. I went out on the weekend and had a great time. The graffiti can make the area look a bit shady, but people are all chill. Just say buen dia or buenas noches as you pass. Walk the other way toward the beach and you’ll find a much more upscale street, including Restaurant Kasalta, which has the best soups and sandwiches.
