Casa de Tortuga

Skip gave great service and lots of information. There’s a nice pool out back, and the room has a small living area and bathroom, plus a kitchenette with a coffee maker, little electric stove, and small fridge.

We felt more at home and comfortable at Casa Tortuga than at the other two places we stayed during our Puerto Rico vacation. The property was very clean and the pool was beautiful. There’s a grocery store around the corner, and Esperanza’s "strip" is about a five-minute walk away. Skip was friendly and helpful, and even said we could pick mangoes from his trees. We stayed six nights. Thanks for everything, Skip.

Skip has clearly put a lot of care into building this place over the years. Our room was clean and nice, if a bit rustic, though that feels right for Vieques. There’s a swimming pool, and he offered beach towels, chairs, and snorkeling gear to use for free. The "Esperanza strip" is just a short walk away. I’d definitely stay again.

We packed light, so being able to borrow beach chairs, an umbrella, and even boogie boards made a big difference. There’s also an outdoor shower and a foot rinse for coming back from the beach, and plenty of spots to sit outside. The pool was clean and inviting. Skip let us pick as much as we wanted from the more than 30 fruit trees, including mangoes and starfruit, so we had fruit for breakfast and beach snacks each day. At night, the gorgeous lights made the place feel like Pandora. Yes, a rooster might wake you early, but you’d run into that anywhere on the island, and the chickens and wild horses made our visit more enchanting. The rooms aren’t the most up to date, but we were there to explore, not hang out in the room. The rate was affordable, it’s steps from the beach, and Skip’s friendly, small inn vibe suited us better than a hotel. Casa de Tortuga had everything we wanted. Thanks for a wonderful week, Skip.
