Malecón House is just steps from bars, restaurants, and the meeting points for bio bay tours, and they lend out beach chairs, towels, and coolers. There are ice machines too. Staff were friendly, and you can buy drinks and snacks in the lobby, though we walked about four minutes to the neighborhood store. The room was nice, the bed comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water and good AC. On-site parking, a nice patio, and a pool were also welcome. Coffee and tea are complimentary at 7:30am, with breakfast from 8:00-10:00am. It was a light but tasty breakfast, and one morning included bananas from the backyard. We had a great three-night stay and would return.

The location is hard to beat, just a short walk to Esperanza’s restaurants and bars and a quick drive to some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen. Check-in with Dafney was warm and smooth, and the room was cozy and comfortable. Amenities include reasonably priced drinks and snacks at the honesty bar, self-serve coolers and ice, fresh towels each day, and beach chairs. At $230 a night, though, the rooms are cute but basic, and the shower pressure is weak. I speak Spanish fluently and found the local staff a little curt. I was told off for leaving my breakfast table uncleared, though nothing said I was expected to clear it. In the morning, I was also pressed about my room number so cleaning could start. A simple sign on the door for “ready to clean,” or just a smile, would have helped. The continental breakfast is a pretty thin version: Babybel, packaged pastries, and weak coffee. It breaks the fast, just barely. It was a mixed bag. At $150-160, I’d give it five stars without hesitation, but $230 a night in the off-season feels a little overpriced to me.

The deluxe ocean-view room was nice, but that view didn’t make a huge difference for us. There’s a parking area and street between the hotel and the ocean. If the price feels like a stretch, I’d choose a cheaper room. We spent five nights at Malecon House, and now I see the appeal of small boutique hotels. It’s a great mix of Airbnb and hotel, with very personal, top-notch service. The location works well for exploring the island. We liked the pool area, though we went to the beach every day and didn’t use it much. They provide a personal cooler and ice machine for beach drinks, plus chairs, towels, and snorkeling gear. I’d recommend breakfast next door at Kristies, meals at Duffy's, and drinks on the Bananas rooftop. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay in another room.

The staff were what made the biggest impression. They were warm, helpful, attentive to me and my family, and shared local suggestions that made the visit better. The coffee in the morning was fantastic too, a small touch we appreciated every day. We spent five days at The Malecón House and had a wonderful stay. The place is clean, well cared for, and thoughtfully designed. In Esperanza, it’s right across from the ocean and in the middle of everything. Waking up and stepping outside to that view each morning made the trip feel special. We left happy with our choice and feeling well looked after.

Room 5 felt like our own little oasis. They managed to fit an extra bed for our teenager without making the room feel cramped, which mattered a lot to us. The hotel is charming and comfortable, clean, and well maintained, with warm, attentive service. Beach chairs, towels, coolers, and ice meant we had what we needed for exploring the beaches. After a day out, the pool was a great place to recharge, and the plants and design are 10/10. The location is hard to beat. We had a jeep, but if you’re only staying a few nights, you may not need a car since everything you need is nearby. We’d definitely come back.
