We kept coming back to Casa Vela because it felt so relaxing there. The restaurant sits beside a lovely pool that guests can use, and the homemade desserts were awesome. They serve delicious Portuguese food at very reasonable prices. We left feeling happy every time.

We had 13 of us, six adults, two teenagers and five younger kids, and spent six hours here before our evening flight from Faro. The atmosphere was fab, the pool lovely, and the staff were excellent. The food was fantastic too, from a lovely English breakfast and dinner to great cocktails and shakes. Towels were €2, there was plenty of parking, and the toilets were fine. There were free tennis and showers, though the showers weren't very hot. With the sun out, we didn't mind. If you're around Galé, alberfuria or guia and have time before your flight, I'd recommend finding this place. The kids loved it.

It can get really busy because of the pool, so finding a seat isn't always easy. Still, I'd wait for one, because the food is excellent for such an unassuming place. The servers work hard and are friendly and professional.

The sea bream was amazing, €11 with potatoes and salad. I followed it with an iced cafe, tasty and refreshing, and pretty strong too. This is a real gem in a beautiful area, away from the busy town, with easy parking, a great menu and a nice poolside atmosphere with sunbeds. I was glad I came for the local food, and a cool-off in the pool afterwards.

The house-style chicken breast was really good!
