Casa René, Lisbon's Hidden Gem

Koen and Ylvi really make this place special as local guides, and they take that role seriously. The place feels like a hidden paradise, on a street full of local restaurants and just minutes from the ferry into the heart of Lisbon. You're warmly welcomed here. Highly recommended.

The garden was the real highlight for us. We ate all our meals outside at the table, beside the long pool, two mandarin trees and a lemon tree. Our boys, aged 7 and 9, also enjoyed the little area downstairs with books and toys. Inside, the apartment had a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable couch, and two lovely bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Each room can be set up with two single beds or one king size bed. Ylvi and Koen were wonderful hosts, full of useful information and suggestions for Lisbon, Almada, Sintra and Cascais. They made sure we had what we needed without being pushy or too present. The apartment was also handy for the ferry, which took 5-10 minutes to Lisbon city center. There are several restaurants on the pedestrian street outside, with no traffic. We had a wonderful holiday here and would stay again if we return to Lisbon. Five stars from us.

Yivi got in touch as soon as we booked and helped us sort out airport transfers, transport and information about the city. We had a fantastic time. Casa Rene is in a great spot close to lots of restaurants and cafes. Highly recommended.

The slower, less crowded feel of Almada was just right for our first big trip with our two kids, aged 5 and 1. We could take the ferry into Lisbon easily, then come back to somewhere calmer. Our 5-year-old was especially happy to swim every day at Casa Rene. We also enjoyed the big elevator up to Jardim do Rio and a visit to Mercado da Romeira. I liked it better than TimeOut Market, mostly because so much of the seating is outdoors. We hope we can come back someday.
