Sunshine Hostel

The host was super nice and welcoming from the moment we arrived until we left. The rooms and shared spaces were clean, the view was nice, and he gave us great suggestions for places to eat. There were older bikers in the same room too, so the 45-year rule doesn’t seem that strict. I still don’t understand why it exists, or what happened with the older woman mentioned in another review. Before booking, I’d read that an elderly woman had been left out on the street at night because of her age. I was travelling with someone over 45, the limit listed on Booking, though not on Hostelworld where we booked. I called ahead to make sure we could stay. The host understood and confirmed it, but said, “of course we have an age limit, this is a youth hostel,” even though, as far as I can see, it doesn’t say anywhere that it’s a youth hostel. He also said 50 was fine, but 70 or 80 would be a problem. That felt discriminatory and uncomfortable, especially for a hostel with a happiness and yoga brand. The shower was another downside. The bathroom door doesn’t lock, and you’re meant to shower behind a curtain while other people use the toilets in stalls with doors. The dog wanders around freely, but he’s very calm and harmless. It’s a bit far from the beach, around a 20-30 minute walk. We booked two beds for 50 euros. When we arrived, the host said he’d emailed Hostelworld that the summer price was higher, but we never got that message, only confirmation of our booking at the original price. Our reservation and advance payment were valid. We ended up paying 70, which was fine, but the price information on the platform should have been updated. That wasn’t our fault. All in all, we had a good stay, but the age issue was a shame. Thank you!
