The homemade pumpkin jam and quince paste at breakfast were among the treats, and the rest of the service lived up to them. D. Luísa made us dogfish soup that was a lovely taste of Alentejo, and her care and dedication made us feel at home. Vida, the energetic and affectionate Jack Russell, was another delight. The estate is made for slowing down, with cork oaks all around and paths for walking or cycling. Everything seemed carefully thought through, especially the dining room opening onto the pool, a real highlight even on a day too chilly for swimming. When it got dark while we were out cycling, D. Luisa called to check on us. We were at a village café in Courelinhas, chatting with Sr. João and his cousin Sr. Fernando, who are also cousins of the café’s lovely owner. It seems the village traces back to almost one family. Congratulations to Sr. Amilcal on creating such a lovely place. We’ll recommend it and might come back.

The access road is a little difficult, though nothing too serious, and it may help keep the place quiet. Once we reached the estate, the peace, nature, and calm made it feel like exactly the right spot. As soon as I opened the car door, I was greeted by Vida, the house dog, a little force of nature. The welcome was friendly and helpful. We needed breakfast earlier than usual, and they sorted it out right away. The room was comfortable, the sleep was good, and it was completely quiet. Breakfast had a great variety of products, too. We’ll certainly return and recommend it without hesitation to anyone who enjoys nature. Some places leave a bad impression and fade from memory, but the good ones stay with you.
