Camping Lamego Douro Valley

Our tent spot was on one of several charming terrace-style platforms with a great view. We stayed for one night at the end of September and loved it. The woman who I assume was the owner had lots of recommendations and helped us decide where to go wine tasting, even offering to make an appointment, and where to pitch the tent. There’s a cozy cafe beside reception. The bathrooms were clean and private, though there weren’t many: four showers and four toilets for women, eight of each in total. It wasn’t a problem since the campsite wasn’t very crowded. It’s a five minute walk from the top of the monastery stairs. Definitely recommend.

There are lots of trees, the ground wasn’t too hard, and the campsite sits right among the vineyards. The bathrooms were clean, with laundry machines available. The staff were so friendly they even let us check out two hours late, so we didn’t have to pack in the middle of a rainstorm. The only downside was that we couldn’t park our motorcycles beside the tents because there was no access. They were close enough, though, that it wasn’t much of a hassle.

You can walk from the campsite to the city center, which is a big plus, and the views of the city are amazing. The kind, welcoming woman who runs the place helped make for a lovely atmosphere. There’s a cozy bar on site, and the bathroom and laundry areas are exceptionally clean and well maintained. You can order delicious dinner or breakfast too. Everything was perfect!

A little gem close to Lamego. We’d planned on two nights and ended up staying four. The pitches aren’t large, but they’re laid out thoughtfully, and the facilities are spotless. Clara gave us a lovely welcome, couldn’t have been more helpful, and made us feel special.
