Ambiente Hostel

The bed felt almost like my own at home, and the guests and staff were thoughtful and quiet. The shared bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms were sparkling clean. I liked having a proper kitchen where guests could make tea or cook something simple. The water heater sometimes went off briefly, then came back, so you just had to be patient. Since this is an old building, I was glad I didn’t have any other problems with it. I was nervous about using the gas heater for the first time, but a staff member patiently showed me how, and it worked fine throughout. It had a big-family feel, with your own bedroom and shared kitchen and bathroom. The self check-in and check-out were smooth, and the instructions were clear. Anjos station is nearby, three stops from Rosio in the old town. I enjoyed my three nights a lot. Just set your expectations: it won’t suit someone fussy who wants a hotel-style experience.

I came for a few days and stayed for two weeks. As a digital nomad, I liked the balance at Ambiente: people to socialize with, plus quiet places to relax. The staff were supportive and helpful. I tried both a dorm and a private room, and enjoyed them both. I preferred the private room, with its balcony and desk for working. The roomy kitchen had everything needed to cook. I had a single room for a couple of nights and thought the hostel was great value. It was clean and spacious, with a good kitchen and clean showers. There are lots of good places to eat and drink in the Anjos area. I’d recommend it and would stay again. As with any hostel, pack earplugs for noise from outside or inside, even though it was minimal in both cases.

The double room was clean and larger than the photos suggested. The shared bathrooms were clean, too, and check-in and check-out were very easy. For a hostel, it was spotless; for a hotel, it would still be quite decent. Everyone was respectful and nice. I’m surprised it only has a two-star rating. The Google rating seems much more accurate.
