Hotel Anjos

The rest of the hotel staff and people in Lisbon were much kinder, thankfully, but my arrival was a really bad start to the holiday. I’d already paid over 500 euros for the booking weeks earlier and only asked for details about the extra city tax due at check-in. The tall, bald, Black receptionist was patronising and rude in response. It left a terrible impression and nearly spoiled the trip before it began.

They don’t change the bed sheets, just make the bed. I also found dust under it. I asked them to clean the room the next day, but the dust was still in the same spot.

The breakfast was a letdown: there were very few choices, and the exact same food came out each day. The owner was rude to me, especially at breakfast, and was dismissive and unhelpful even when I asked simple questions or made basic requests. Management also seemed very stingy. The owner often told staff to switch off lights, even in common areas guests were using, which made the hotel feel awkward and unwelcoming. I rarely post a negative review, but Hotel Anjos was a disappointing stay. I wouldn’t recommend it when Lisbon has more hospitable places.

The room was spacious, the bathroom was roomy and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location also made it convenient to reach nearby tourist attractions. Outside noise interrupted the quiet, though we still slept well. Breakfast was very basic with few choices, but at least there was something to give us energy for the day. The night seemed a little overpriced for what the hotel offers, and the reception staff could have been friendlier. The stay was okay overall.
