Fado Bed & Breakfast Santos

There are plenty of things to do around the neighborhood, and the location is good. We stayed two nights and had a room so small only one person could move around at a time. It's a budget place in Lisbon, so we hadn't expected much.

The location is good, and our room had a spacious balcony with a nice view. It was minimally clean, so the stay wasn't all bad, but I could only put up with it for a night or two. The bathrooms smelled strongly of sulphur and weren't very clean. The bed linen was heavily used, and the rooms had empty light fittings with dirty shades. The so-called shared kitchen felt like an air raid shelter, with just a microwave and kettle.

For a budget visit to Lisbon, I'd recommend this place. The price is fair for what's included, and the location is good. You can reach the B&B on the traditional Lisbon streetcars. My room was good, with a comfortable bed and a tiny but clean shower room. Breakfast wasn't amazing, but it was decent: ham, cheese, a couple of slices of bread per person, a toaster, coffee, orange juice, cereal, and milk. The air conditioner gave me trouble on the first night, but the owner sorted it promptly after I emailed.

Getting inside was a mess. The email had the front door code and said our room would be open, but it wasn't. We waited four hours for someone to come unlock the door. They don't answer the phone, there's rarely anyone around, and when staff are there they can't fix problems. We never got fresh towels during the stay, and the shower had no door. The bright light by the door made it hard to sleep. We paid for a supposed superior room, but there was barely floor space; two backpacks and shoes covered it. Other rooms used codes, but ours had a simple key, and we were given only one for two people. The listing photos seemed deliberately misleading and didn't match reality. The owner knows he's tricking people and doesn't care, making all sorts of excuses to justify the abusive situation. Booking didn't care either; I contacted customer service and got no reply. I added a photo of the air conditioning because that and the 'best furniture' were the excuse for calling this a superior room.
