Feeling Chiado 15

The only real drawback for us was the climb: 96 steps, since this lovely historic building can’t have an elevator installed. It didn’t take away from how much we enjoyed our stay, though. My wife and I felt at home from the moment we arrived, thanks to the welcoming staff. Our spacious, comfortable room had a stunning view and was spotless, with careful cleaning every day. We also looked forward to finding a different complimentary treat after each cleaning. We’d happily recommend the hotel and stay again.

I picked Feeling Chiado because of the good reviews, and I’m leaving this feedback so other travelers can make an informed choice. There was no Wi-Fi signal at all in my room, and with no staff on duty after 19:30, I couldn’t get help that evening. The smell was another problem: sewage covered up with fake incense, and it never went away. When I raised both issues the next morning with the same man who had checked me in, he said they knew about the smell and blamed it on the river. He also said they knew iPhone users had Wi-Fi problems. I wish I’d been told before paying. Getting to the room meant climbing eight flights of stairs, though luckily I had no luggage. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I wouldn’t stay here again and strongly advise finding another hotel.

The people working here were kind, genuinely helpful, and the view from the Garrett room over São Jorge Castle was lovely. Breakfast was good too, though starting before 8:30am would help guests with early plans. I knew I was booking an old building, and it was a decent one-time stay, but I won’t be back. I don’t understand all the glowing reviews, especially at this price and rating. The place needs substantial updating. There were problems throughout the room and bathroom. The old, basic IKEA furniture and linens showed their age, and a loose closet shelf needed fixing. The bathroom ventilation was poor, and its sliding door stuck. Hot water took a long time to arrive, and the shower pressure was weak. Wi-Fi was slow the whole stay, then stopped working on my last day. Since staff are only around during the daytime, no one was available to help. Noise was the biggest issue. Even a quick run of the sink, toilet flush, or shower set off a loud vibrating pump. We could hear and feel it from our room and the surrounding rooms.

The terrace views are lovely, and the hotel is right in the centre. We found it clean and modern, with a great breakfast and afternoon snacks. There were little treats each night and suggestions for places to visit left at our door each morning. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in, but the staff really made the stay. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and helpful. This is the best hotel we’ve stayed at, and we’ll be back.
