Figueira House in Beira Minho

The listing and the room I got were completely different. It was freezing, there was no heating, and the room was so tiny my suitcase barely fit upright. They'd double booked and put me in a smaller room than the one I'd paid for. They canceled the booking for a refund, and I found a nicer three-star hotel that night for the same price. There are lots of much better affordable places on the avenue. This one offers no value for money.

We expected basic, but the dirt, smell, and noise made it impossible to sleep. The bathroom stank and was covered in mold, and the rest of the facilities seemed similar. When we arrived the window was open, apparently to mask the odor. With it shut, we couldn't stand being in the room; open, the street was extremely loud. The hygiene and cleaning made me worry about safety too. Since we arrived late, we had to stay the first night, though we'd have left right away if we could. In my view, the owner seems to be collecting tourist money without cleaning, maintaining, or investing in the place, and the Booking rating may be misleading. Of course, there was no refund. Families with kids should be especially wary.

The location is good, but the room was dirty and covered in mold, with a terrible smell. The bathroom and towels were dirty too, and the towels smelled bad. I wouldn't recommend it.

Nothing fancy, just a simple place in a great central spot.
