The smoking at breakfast was my one real concern. The smell could fill the shared spaces and sometimes drift up the stairs, so a reminder to keep doors shut or a separate smoking spot might help. Otherwise, the place felt safe and had a charming, very Lisbon character despite its simple appearance. The older men at reception did their best in English and were wonderfully attentive. During a citywide power cut, I saw them working hard to keep guests calm and safe. It stuck with me, and I’d gladly stay again next time I’m in Lisbon.

The top-floor living room and its balcony were lovely places to sit in the evenings. We skipped breakfast because we wanted to try the cafes nearby, though the breakfast room looked modern and pleasant. Our three-bed room on the sixth floor was spacious enough for all of us, with a wardrobe, small desk, kettle, and TV. It was clearly very clean. The bathroom felt a little dated, but had what we needed and plenty of room. Check-in was easy too: the receptionist was quick, friendly, and pointed us in the right direction. I’d been nervous after reading reviews, but the stay won me over. Basic, but just right.

For a budget stay, everything felt really nice: clean rooms, kind staff, and a good breakfast. With the quality we got, I think it deserves more than its two stars, and I’ve stayed in three-star hotels that were worse.

The location made getting around easy, with the metro and buses nearby, and the price was very good for what we got. Our room was small, but it had everything we needed and came with a balcony just as large as the room. Sitting out there in the evening was lovely. The bathroom was tiny, almost like a train bathroom, but functional and very clean. The cleaning staff were the best. There isn’t much choice at breakfast, though most people should be able to find something unless they have allergies. The rolls were fresh and tasty, fruit was fresh, and the coffee was better than at most hotels I’ve visited. The cheese and ham weren’t the best, but weren’t the worst either. You can hear through the thin walls, which is about what I expected in southern Europe.
