We stayed, but we won’t return. We’d booked one night at IN Chiado and regretted it quickly. The room was spacious, but the website photos were so flattering that they gave a misleading impression. The old furniture made it feel rather dated, though the bed was comfortable. There was only a thin duvet and no spare blankets. Because of my allergies, using the air conditioning wasn’t an option, and the room was uncomfortable overnight. The shower cubicle was extremely cramped. A person of average height could fit only with effort, and there was hardly room to move. I lightly touched the hot water dispenser and got a serious burn. The shower was also raised on a high step, so getting out safely took care and some skill. The worst part was the damp. Mold and moisture covered the walls and ceiling, paint was coming off, there were holes, and rainwater dripped from the ceiling overnight into a basin on the floor. The windows were stuck, one wouldn’t open at all, the blinds didn’t work, and the curtains were too short to block the light. We were awake by 7 a.m. when all we needed was rest. The bedroom door jammed and had to be forced shut. It didn’t feel secure, so we put our valuables in the car before leaving. Check-out happened over the phone, with no one coming to ask how things were or even say goodbye. We only stayed because our commitments were coming up and, at that short notice, the other rooms we found cost more than €150. We didn’t ask for a refund or find another place. We stayed, but we won’t be back.

We picked this place for its location and price-to-quality ratio, and because it seemed to suit our needs since we only planned to sleep there. We were greeted politely and checked in, but only after settling into the room did we realize its actual condition. The room did have a double bed, was spacious, and had a private bathroom, as shown in the booking and photos. But the door had no outside handle. Closing it from the outside took excessive force, made a loud bang, and still didn’t feel secure enough for us to leave valuables in the room. There were two windows. When we tried opening one for some air, we saw serious damp around both windows. Water started dripping into the room, and only then did we notice the basin on the floor to catch it, since the curtains had been drawn when we arrived. One window wouldn’t open and the other took a lot of effort. Neither blind worked, and the curtains didn’t cover the windows fully, so by about 7 a.m. the room was bright and we couldn’t get proper rest. The shower cubicle was so small that it was hard to move around in. The water dispenser got very hot, so you had to be careful. My companion warned me and avoided a burn, but she herself got burned while showering. At checkout no one was there to take the electronic key, and nobody called to explain what to do or ask about our stay. We had to phone the person in charge ourselves to find out where to leave it. I can’t recommend this place.
