Hotel Marquês de Pombal

We appreciated that the staff parked our rental car underground and kept it safely. The hotel is in a shopping district with a pleasant park down the middle, and we found some great restaurants nearby. It’s a 15-20 minute downhill walk to the waterfront, so the return is uphill. Keep that in mind if hills are an issue. We’d stayed in Lisbon’s historic centre before, but this time needed parking and spent two nights here during a two-week trip around Portugal. Our room was clean, spacious enough for two, and looked out over the main street. The bathroom and other facilities were nice. Staff were pleasant and easy to deal with. I emailed ahead for recommendations, and they gave us several, including places beyond their own restaurant. Breakfast was included downstairs, with plenty of choices and seating, and was well run. We’d recommend the hotel if you’re comfortable staying a little farther from the historic centre.

The room was comfortable, clean, and well maintained, and the location was ideal for exploring the city. The staff were incredible, especially Luis Nunes, and I want to thank the other team members too. I had a wonderful stay at Marques de Pombal Hotel and would definitely come back.

Hotel Marquês de Pombal is an elegant hotel, and the staff were remarkably polite. Its central location puts major sights, restaurants, and transport options within easy reach. I’d highly recommend it to anyone seeking an elegant city-centre stay with such strong service.

Breakfast was okay, and the hotel’s location is a real plus for us. It’s near Marquês de Pombal metro station, with the Blue and Yellow lines, and several bus stops are also easy to reach. But the rooms are rather small, with very dusty corners, and the bathroom didn’t feel clean, with visible mold. There was a bottle of water in the room, which we used to brush our teeth. When it was empty after two days, we asked for another and a female receptionist rather unfriendly told us the bottle was a welcome drink and that more bottled water wasn’t free. We travel a lot and usually get complimentary bottled water for brushing our teeth. That was particularly disappointing given the very high price for such a simple room. We’ve since found that we can get better for what we paid, so next time we’ll stay elsewhere.
