Memmo Alfama - Design Hotels

We especially liked having a terrace room with a view, where we could enjoy drinks from the pool bar. The hotel sits in a very busy, touristy area, but is tucked away enough to feel nicely removed. Our room was clean and pleasant, the complimentary breakfast was fantastic, and the service was great. We were very happy at Memmo Alfama.

The shared spaces are a real highlight: a comfortable breakfast room, a separate reading room, and lovely terraces overlooking the city. The pool looked inviting, although I was there in February and didn’t try it. Alfama is well worth visiting, and the hotel is right in the middle of the neighborhood. Most days it offers a free guided neighborhood tour. Be ready for steep hills and narrow cobbled sidewalks. I had a smooth check-in and got an extra service I asked for without paying more. My Mansard room was small but comfortable, with a practical bathroom and two bathrobes. The window is partly blocked by the architecture, but opening it and standing on the step gives you a great top-floor view. There’s a water boiler and cups for morning tea. I didn’t try breakfast. It was good value in February, though I don’t know what the prices are like in High Season.

Memmo Alfama had the best breakfast of the places we stayed during our week in Lisbon. The fruit was fresh, and the homemade yogurt and granola were delicious. We also had lunch and a few drinks at the rooftop bar the following evening, with its amazing view and lovely staff. Tiago at the front desk was wonderful and answered lots of our questions. His dinner recommendation was spot on: Discreto had delicious food, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff. It was our first Lisbon visit, and I’d found the hotel online for our two-night stay a week ago. Our Uber dropped us in the wrong place and told us to walk down the road with our luggage. A very nice person we met along the way turned out to work at the hotel. She explained that Uber and Bolt often make the same mistake and drop people one street away. There’s a sign pointing to the hotel in the right alley. Once we arrived, the front desk staff were amazingly friendly and informative. Thanks to Memmo Alfama and the staff.

Tucked deep in Alfama, this hotel puts you in the heart of what feels like the real Lisbon. The staff were attentive without hovering and focused on helping, with real care for the details. Breakfast was great, the showers were brilliant, and the rooftop terrace has lovely views. Take the free guided tour offered each morning to learn why Alfama has only a few roof terraces. Enjoy!
