My Bairro Alto Suites

To be clear, I had agreed to the cancellation policy. I'd booked months ahead, then forgot about the reservation after deciding not to go. When the charge came two weeks before the stay, I realized what it was and contacted the apartment less than five hours later. They refunded half, but wouldn't return the rest, even though it was clearly a mistake. I'd understand if I'd waited 24 hours or more after the charge, or if they couldn't find another guest. Since then, the room has been booked, so they haven't lost business. I found the response very unkind and wouldn't stay here or recommend it. The consideration felt inhuman.

The bar downstairs gets busy on weekends, the prices are extremely low, and the staff are very welcoming. The apartments are clean, practical, and cleaned daily, right in the middle of Lisbon's lively nightlife district. It was a bit chilly while we were there, but I can imagine the rooftop terrace being special and memorable in summer. I can't recommend 'My Bairro Alto Suites' enough!

The owners charged more than €200 for a late cancellation and said they wouldn't return the money, telling me I should have travel insurance. I had planned a holiday in Portugal, but had to cancel because Russia attacked Ukraine and I couldn't safely leave the country. We're in a full-scale war, living with bombings and shootings, and insurance doesn't work now. We're fighting for our lives and our country. Dear owners, I guess you need my €200 more than I do.

We stayed in February and paid very little for the apartment, so it was amazing value. I don't know if summer prices are as low. The neighborhood is nice, the apartment is cute, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was good too. From the fifth floor, all those stairs got exhausting at times. There's a terrace on the fifth and sixth floors with great views and some seating. I think it's meant to close at night, but at 3 a.m. one night a drunk couple from the second floor went out there and argued, making it impossible to sleep. That door should be locked at night. With the stairs and terrace noise, I'd suggest floors one to three.
