The room was spacious, with windows opening onto a wonderful view of the water, and the whole place had a grand, luxurious feel, almost like stepping into a fairy tale. Breakfast was a real treat, with fresh fruit and juice each morning, and the best cappuccino I’ve ever had. A heartfelt thanks to Antonio, Akshay, Joana, and Rodrigo for being so kind and welcoming, and to the housekeeping team too. Palacete Chafariz d'el Rei felt more like a small guest house than a regular hotel. We kept running into staff at breakfast, when leaving our keys, or when ringing the bell to get back in. There wasn’t the usual hotel anonymity. Sounds from other guests carried at any hour, so quiet became a shared courtesy during our five-day stay. Everyone respected that, apart from the enthusiastic dog that woke the world every morning. That dog seemed to be the subject of its owner’s poem about guests who complain about everyone else’s noise but wake the hotel with their own dog. The poem imagines a manager gently asking them to consider how their barking affects other guests. Still, the dog’s owner also complained about everyday sounds, including merriment and footsteps, and seemed not to notice the dog’s part in keeping people awake.

The cheerful staff were the best part, so helpful throughout. After a stressful AirBnB stay, this place felt like a relief. It’s beautiful and quiet, tucked away but still close to the city center, and one of the best fado venues is right on the doorstep.

We stayed here before and after our bike tour in Lisbon. The hotel and its rooms were distinctive and lovely, but the staff really stood out for being so helpful and accommodating. Breakfast outside was a pleasure. We’ll definitely come back.

We had a lovely stay, and breakfast each morning was a delicious selection. My favorite was the house-made granola with yogurt, fruit, and honey. The staff were beautiful.
