Torel Palace Lisbon

The terraces have gorgeous views, and the suite we were upgraded to was beautiful, with a very comfortable bed. It feels like a peaceful hilltop retreat, away from the busy streets, though the main avenues are only a five-minute walk. We felt very safe here as two women traveling together. We loved our stay and will be back.

The team is what made this anniversary trip unforgettable. Every staff member we met was warm, attentive, and professional, and they always made us feel special. Thank you, Torel team! We flew over from the USA after doing a lot of research, and the property really is something special. The Lisbon views are magnificent, even better than the viewpoints around town. Beautiful rooms with high ceilings and gorgeous moldings, plus a delicious breakfast. We’re particular about sleep, and found the beds extremely comfortable. We travel a lot, and this is one of our favorite places we’ve stayed. It made us fall in love with Lisbon. We’ll recommend it to friends and family visiting, and can’t wait to return.

We had some real positives: the staff were kind and accommodating when the room wasn’t up to its usual standard, and we appreciated their willingness to work with us. Breakfast was lovely, with something for everyone, and one of our favorite parts of the hotel. They also arranged a taxi to the airport and gave us take-away breakfast boxes with assorted items and orange juice. The property is beautiful and, for its age, seemed well maintained. Our room had a balcony and hot tub, one of the nicest room options, but the tub was broken when we arrived and looked as if it hadn’t been used in a long time. We made it clear this was a major reason we chose the room and hotel, but it wasn’t fixed during our four-day, three-night stay. That was a disappointing start, especially since we’d looked forward to using it in the cool weather. The hotel later issued us a significant refund. The location is on a steep hill with lots of stairs, so it may not suit someone with mobility issues. That seems to be true of much of Lisbon, too.

The care in the little details made this feel like coming home, even though I was traveling alone for my birthday. There were treats in my room when I arrived, chocolates from housekeeping, and a surprise chocolate pudding after dinner. Someone greeted me at the taxi, and my bags were handled gently when I left. Every small gesture felt thoughtful. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, with lovely city views and a comfortable mix of homely and luxurious. I’ve stayed at lots of hotels, mostly five-star, but the service here stood out for its thoughtfulness and attention. A huge thank you to all the staff. One of my best hotel stays, and I’ll absolutely come back.
