Varanda da Severa, Lisboa Mouraria

The hotel was okay, and breakfast was very good. The towels need replacing, though. They were very old and a bit thin. Our room attendant was lovely, and Sylvana and Haisa were great too. They were friendly, attentive, and helpful with directions about where to go. Their customer service was excellent, and they deserve a promotion. Keep them at the front desk, and don’t lose them.

The staff were helpful and really nice, and there were several good restaurants and cafes within walking distance. It’s a pleasant uphill walk to the castle and a lovely church with a view over the city. For a two star hotel, this was a very nice stay. Our room was modern and very clean, if a little small, and the balcony had a nice view of the castle.

The hotel itself was great, with clean rooms and TVs that let you watch YouTube or Netflix. Just be aware that the next guest can see what you searched, haha. The buffet breakfast was a nice extra, but honestly I wouldn’t say it’s worth paying for if it isn’t already included. The area felt unsafe, with lots of homeless people and worse.

We stayed two nights on the third floor. Our room was small, clean, and quiet, with comfy pillows. The mattress was shaky, though, so I could feel my partner move whenever he rolled over. The bathroom and shower stall are tiny, great for midgets 😆, but they worked fine. Good soap, and the toilet and shower both worked 👍🏼 We liked the friendly staff, the standard breakfast included with the hotel, and being just a few minutes’ walk from Martim Moniz station. It was handy not having to buy breakfast each morning. We felt safe inside the hotel. Outside the immediate area can feel pretty sketchy, but the Alfama area was fine and we had no problems. I’d stay here again!
