Hostel Bauhaus Bucharest

I turned up late at night without a booking after tech problems with the booking site left me needing a bed at the last minute in Bucharest. Luckily, I ran into the host, who checked me in and matched the discount I would have received through the site. He’s extremely pleasant, dedicated, and interesting to talk to. We both like theatre, so we had a nice chat about it. The hostel is central, clean, comfortable, and well equipped. As someone who loves art, I also have to mention the stunning decorations. I had an impeccable stay, and it was a great price.

BAUHAUS HOSTEL BUCHAREST feels friendly and homey, and I’d strongly recommend it if you need a place to crash while visiting Bucharest. It’s right in the city center, within walking distance of bars, pubs, clubs, and museums. You can choose a private or shared room, and the rooms are cozy and clean. The whole hostel is hand painted and filled with amazing DIY art. The owner is responsive and eager to help, and offers handy extras free of charge, including late check-in or check-out, luggage storage, really tasty coffee, and itinerary tips.

For about 10 euros, this was a great deal. I paid 11 euros for one night, including linen and a towel. The place was clean and cozy, with a large, clean kitchen where you can make a meal. The restrooms were roomy, mostly refurbished, and stayed clean while I was there, even late at night. It’s in a great spot in the center of the Old City. The trouble was getting help from reception. Nobody was there, and my calls went unanswered. I got into the building with another guest, then waited a long time for someone to bring me a key. At checkout I had the same issue, so I decided not to leave my luggage there in case I couldn’t get back inside later.

It’s not easy to reach the people running the hostel, so make sure they know when you’ll arrive, as they may not be there. That wasn’t a major problem for me, and the hostel itself was clean and attractive. The nearby nightlife was the downside during my stay on Monday and Tuesday, with noise coming through the walls. There isn’t much the hostel can do about it, but it wasn’t ideal.
