I called for my NGO to arrange two nights for a guest attending one of our events. They were coming from another city. The man I spoke with first confirmed that a room was available on our dates and said he would accept the booking. I explained that our guest is trans, has medically transitioned, and has not yet legally changed their name or gender, so their appearance might not match the details on their ID. I wanted to make sure they wouldn’t be mistreated or accused of using a fake ID. After hearing this, he said it would be better not to proceed because he “doesn’t want complications” and “doesn’t support these types of changes,” meaning people changing gender or transitioning. He then refused to host our guest, despite having initially confirmed the reservation, because he doesn’t “agree with” trans people. I’d advise LGBTQ+ people and their supporters to take their money elsewhere.

The host was warm and offered really good recommendations. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and the train station is an easy walk away. I did have trouble getting in, though. Clearer instructions at the locked door would have helped.

Spotless apartment, and a really good deal. It’s right by the bus station, about 50 m away, with a bakery just around the corner. The host is on site, so check-in was simple, and the apartment had all the basics, from kitchen utensils and towels to slippers and soap. A great place to stop in Cluj.

The heating was turned up so high that we couldn’t switch it off, and we were sweltering. Then, four days after we’d checked out, someone asked us to pay for “staining the sheets.” It made me wonder if the owner simply didn’t want to replace them and might have left them on the bed for the next guest.

The streetlights are bright at night, and the curtains don’t block all the light. There’s also some noise because the place is near a main road. The landlord was considerate enough to leave earplugs, though.
