Hotel Royal Class

Parking was difficult, and the bathroom caused a few problems: the shower didn’t drain well and a sewer smell kept coming into the room. The refrigerator was annoyingly loud, and it should use a separate outlet so it can keep running when your card isn’t in the slot and you’re away. Apart from those things, it was good.

The room was quiet and clean, with a large bathroom and working AC. WiFi was good, and housekeeping and staff were good to deal with. But I worked from the room and the corner table was awful, while the chairs were really uncomfortable. If you’re not working there, that shouldn’t be an issue. Breakfast was decent, nothing special. The restaurant food was great but a bit pricey, and service could be better. At one point I couldn’t get a table because nobody was there to serve me, even though it was empty. The parking lot is small, though you might get a spot if you call ahead. Nearby buses give you decent connections to the city center.

We liked the soup on an earlier visit, so we came back specifically for it. That was a mistake. The bread was dry and old, and the soup was awful, bland and nothing like we remembered. The waiter spilled about half the soup on the floor while bringing it over, then splashed some on himself, my clothes, and my phone. He didn’t say anything, just set the bowls down and started to leave. We had to ask for replacements. He agreed and came back with new bowls, nearly spilling those too. We’d lost our appetite and asked for the bill. Things got worse when we tried to pay with our vacation card, after already starting the process at reception. The waiter didn’t speak English, kept insisting on card payment, then walked away and swore in Romanian, apparently thinking we wouldn’t understand because we were speaking English. We understand Romanian. This is meant to be a restaurant in a three-star hotel. The receptionist had been rude and seemed high; when he came over, he laughed at what was happening. I stood up and said loudly that we wouldn’t tolerate that level of disrespect. Another waiter was at least polite, apologized, tried to sort things out, and said we didn’t have to pay. The whole visit was chaotic, disrespectful, and embarrassing. We’ll never come back.

The rooms and hotel were really clean, calm, and comfortable during my two-night stay this week. Breakfast had lots of delicious options, and the employees were friendly and helpful. Georgiana at the front desk was especially kind. Thanks again 🙏🏻
