The garden was lovely, the room comfortable, and the service was great. I had a memorable, relaxing stay beside the lake in Gisenyi. Thanks to the Stipphotels team for the hospitality.

On July 26, 2024, my wife and I stayed in room 211 during my second visit to this hotel. Our liquor was stolen. The caretaker, Niyitanga jean de dieu, who is the manager, shared it with two or three night staff members. More than half the employees were drunk. There was no professionalism. The hotel felt like a ghetto motel. It's embarrassing.

This was our second stay at Stipp, and we had a nice family getaway. The kids loved the pool and playground. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner by the pool, and really appreciated our server, Patrick.

This hotel has seen better days and needs renovation. It feels poorly managed: the garden is overgrown, much of the furniture is broken and dated, and nothing on the menu was in stock. The old, damaged children's playground is a hazard and should be closed. It seems typical of an African owner who isn't on site and has left a local person to run the place.

The grounds are the standout, from the garden and beautiful variety of birds to the sparkling pool. They create a rare sense of calm in this part of the world. I've stayed at the Gisenyi Stipp several times and consistently had wonderful experiences. The restaurant serves an interesting mix of regional food and traditional French and Italian dishes, all expertly prepared, and the poolside bar is a great place to spend an afternoon. Some internet reviewers complain about the rooms, but anyone with real experience traveling in East or Central Africa will find them more than adequate. It's not the Four Seasons Half Moon Bay, but would you really want it to be?
