Fagersta Brukshotell

The restaurant was cozy and the food was tasty, so lunch or dinner might be worth it. But the rooms are nowhere near a decent standard, and the price doesn't match the comfort. The Google photos aren't from this hotel, as far as I can tell. I wouldn't book it for a stay.

There was plenty to pick from at the Christmas table, and the desserts were especially good with lots of sweets. Jan Johanssen Trio played during dinner, which many guests seemed to appreciate. The venue was nice, with free parking right outside.

The burger was one of the best I've had, juicy and tasty, and the medium cook was just right. Before that, the chèvre with honey and beetroot was delicious. I also had crème brûlée with coffee for dessert, which was really good. Lovely atmosphere and very good service.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast was really good, though I did miss having some kind of potatoes. Those two things made up for quite a few shortcomings. The bar looked much more done up than our room, but I didn't get a chance to try it. Apparently it's the town's main watering hole for much of the year. Our first room, on the ground floor, smelled stuffy, and airing it out didn't help. The staff were very accommodating when I asked to move us. The second room was adequate, but for an off season stay in a place off the beaten path, it didn't feel worth the price. The building itself is really ugly, though I didn't care much once we were inside. It was sad to see pictures of the gorgeous original hotel that was demolished to make way for this one. Mixed feelings overall, about a three out of five. I might come back since it's pretty much the only hotel in town.
