I stayed at Hotell Baltzar on the very day it opened, and it made a fantastic first impression. The building’s story adds a lot to the atmosphere: it was built in 1898 as a grand home for a local chocolate factory owner, and you can still feel that old Malmö character. I enjoyed reading about the house and neighborhood. It’s right in the city center, so everything is walkable, and the hotel feels cosy, warm and thoughtfully put together, with a lovely boutique feel. For a comfortable central stay with personality and a real sense of place, I’d easily recommend it.

The room was large, though its style felt cold, and the bathroom reminded me of a hospital. It’s a 3 star hotel, so you can’t expect too much. The receptionist didn’t seem very service-minded, and I didn’t feel as welcome as I have at other hotels.

The price was very affordable, which makes this place well worth five stars. Our room was spacious, the staff were friendly, and the breakfast buffet was high quality and included in the price. The Wi-Fi was super too, and included.

The room was clean and had a retro style, which was fine. The staff were friendly, so two stars for that, but the mold in the bathroom is absolutely unacceptable.

A cosy, quiet hotel right in the heart of the Malmo. Great breakfasts, and the atmosphere felt 100% Sweden!
