Mayfair Hotel Tunneln

The family who owns this lovely hotel has put real effort into explaining its historical items and spaces. In my room, for example, there was a Jugend table from 1850 called Fredrik VII lady table. The family had bought it at auction and placed it there. I’ll definitely be back. Keep up the good work! 😘😘

The breakfast could use some attention. It finishes too early, and there aren’t many choices, especially if you have dietary restrictions. Aside from that, I had a really nice stay. The location is excellent, the old hotel is beautiful, and they do a nice job sharing its history. The team are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

The library and breakfast area were super cozy, and the Asian-looking lady in the kitchen really lifted our stay. The plant-based breakfast selection was limited, but she gave us amazing service and prepared vegan cheese, ham and muffins for us. Special thanks to her. 🙏 Our room was spacious and comfortable, but didn’t match what was advertised. It had almost no natural light, just a very small roof window. That was okay for one night, though I wouldn’t want to stay in it for several days. At check-in, the guy at reception was a bit of a moodkill compared with the hotel’s charming, mysterious feel. He just processed us without welcoming us, smiling, making small talk or saying anything positive.

Mayfair Hotel Tunneln is charming, and after visiting Malmö two or three times a year for around 20-odd years, it’s still the one that stands out to us. The hotel is centrally located near the old town and Malmö Central Station. Parts of it, including the dining hall, go back to the late 1500s. You even get old-fashioned room keys, which you can leave at the 24/7 reception when you go out. The rooms are comfortable, and breakfast has a good range for most people. The library was charming too, but it was too cold to sit there comfortably. They didn’t seem able to heat it enough, so it might be nicer in another season. One thing to bear in mind is accessibility. There are lots of stairs, narrow doors and tight corridors, so the hotel isn’t well suited to guests with disabilities. Still, highly recommended.
